This 1989 GMC Jimmy restomod is our vision of what a new ‘89 GMC Jimmy Denali would be if you picked it on the lot today, optioned with a 6.2L engine & and a ten speed transmission.
This full frame-off restoration started with ¾ axles, consisting of a 14 bolt rear axle & a 10 bolt front axle with crossover steering. We completed a full disc brake conversion & installed a full ORD suspension, including custom leaf springs, traction bar, steering box frame brace, new steering box and Fox 2.0 shocks. We extended the wheelbase to 1.5”, with a total suspension lift of 5”. We added new stainless steel brake lines, a custom 38 gallon stainless steel fuel tank, and our custom K5 Squared exhaust with a 4” tail pipe.
This Jimmy is powered by an L86 6.2 GenV LT engine mated to a rare 10L80 10-speed transmission & an NP-241C transfer case. We are running on roughly 500HP & rolling on 35” Nitto Dune Grappler tires. We installed an upgraded factory AC system, dual batteries, 150 amp alternator, custom intake, a four row custom aluminum radiator with dual electric fans & a custom steering shaft rag joint eliminator. Our black exterior paint is finished off with custom LED headlights & taillights, daytime running lights & AMP Research Power steps. The power windows and locks are complete with K5 Squared full power window kits and we added keyless entry with remote start.
Interior updates include: All new black carpet, Denali leather seats & Denali console, custom dash, door panels, rear panels, rear headliner & stereo installation. We added a receiver trailer hitch as well. The dashboard includes a Dakota Digital cluster. We installed 3 layers of sound deadener, which you will need for your Alpine Halo 9 touchscreen head unit (complete with backup camera, Apple Carplay, & Android auto) connected via Silver Serpent RCA cables, to the sound system consisting of: Focal K2 series 3 way speakers in the front & Focal K2 coaxial speakers in the rear, powered by an audio control D6.1200 with integrated DSP, and a JL Audio TW5 13.5” Subwoofer & a JL Audio HD 1200/1 amp.
